Offer Description

Project: Perovskite Solar Cells with Enhanced Stability and Applicability, Project “VALHALLA”

Commitment & contract: up to 14 months - collaboration contract

Location: Via Rubattino 81, Milan, Italy, Center for Nano Science and Technology of IIT

ABOUT US

At IIT we work enthusiastically to develop human-centered Science and Technology to tackle some of the most pressing societal challenges of our times and transfer these technologies to the production system and society. Our Genoa headquarters are strictly interconnected with the other 11 centers around Italy and two outstations based in the US. We promote excellence in basic and applied research such as neuroscience and cognition, humanoid technologies and robotics, nanotechnology, materials for a truly multidisciplinary scientific experience.

YOUR TEAM

The Advanced Materials for Optoelectronic Research Line, coordinated by Dr. Annamaria Petrozza, is looking for a motivated Post-doctoral researcher to work on a project that aims at developing stable metal halide perovskite absorbers with various bandgaps and optimized charge extraction layers to boost different applications of PV technology. The project will put particular emphasis on defining the proprieties - optoelectronic properties, defect chemistry, (in)stability mechanisms - of thin films grown through both vapour and solution processing, and to rationalize potential differences. The work will be carried out in fully equipped facility for the production of thin film, their characterization through advanced opto and electronic spectroscopy.

The activity is part of a multi-partners project called VALHALLA, which involves major European players in the development of metal halide based perovskite solar cells. The aim of the project is the development of perovskite solar cells and modules with power conversion efficiencies above 26% (23% for modules) and an extrapolated lifetime > 25 years, guided by eco-design principles that decrease the environmental impact of perovskite photovoltaics: scalable production processes, no harmful solvents, optimised use of materials, circularity and recyclability.

The candidate will be working in a multicultural and multi-disciplinary group, where material scientists, chemists, physicists and engineers collaborate, each with their expertise, to carry out a scientific activity with a shared research goal.

This open position is financed by the European Union's Horizon Europe Research and Innovation program under Grant agreement 101082176, CUP J53C22003870006, within the project “VALHALLA: Perovskite solar cells with enhanced stability and applicability” (https://valhalla-solar.eu/).

  • Experience in the field of metal halide semiconductors
  • Good command in spoken and written English

COMPENSATION PACKAGE

  • Competitive salary package for international standards
  • Private health care coverage (depending on your role and contract)
  • Wide range of staff discounts
  • Candidates from abroad or Italian citizens who permanently work abroad and meet specific requirements, may be entitled to a deduction from taxable income of up to 90% from 6 to 13 years.
