Research topic: acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL): basic and translational research

Research group: Department of Molecular and Clinical Genetics

PhD student’s tasks:

The PhD student will participate in research on the molecular basis of pediatric T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL), aimed in particular at identifying new prognostic factors and new potential therapy targets. The research is based on the results of next-generation sequencing of samples obtained from patients with T-ALL and the use of functional analysis in vitro using T-ALL cell lines.

Benefits

  1. A PhD candidate will receive a fellowship of 3 500,00 PLN net.

  1. candidate’s scientific achievements based on study grades, scientific and popular science publications, scholarships, prizes and awards resulting from conducting research or student activity or other achievements;
  2. candidate’s scientific and professional experience based on participation in conferences, workshops, trainings and internships, participation in research and commercial projects, involvement in scientific societies and associations, international and professional mobility, experience in other sectors, including industry;
  3. candidate’s knowledge in the discipline of medical sciences;
  4. knowledge of the research topics presented in this recruitment announcement.

 

Selection process

The description of the recruitment process can be found in the Recruitment regulations of the Poznań Doctoral School of the Institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

Additional comments

A PhD candidate will have covered social security costs as referred to in art. 6 para. 1 point 7b of the Act of 13 October 1998 on the social insurance system (Journal of Laws of 2019 item 300, 303 and 730).

Skills/Qualifications

Requirements for candidates:

  1. MSc or MSc Eng title or equivalent in the field of biology, biotechnology, genetics, medicine or related or candidates who meet the criteria given in the recruitment regulations.
  2. Knowledge in the field of molecular biology.
  3. Experience in molecular biology techniques, in work with RNA, DNA, in cell cultures.
  4. Experience in flow cytometry analysis of cell cycle and apoptosis will be an additional advantage.
  5. Very good spoken and written English.
  6. High motivation and enthusiasm for scientific work.
  7. Ability to work in a group.

    When applying for admission to Poznań Doctoral School IPAS, the following documents should be submitted by the candidate to the secretariat of the Institute of Human Genetics, PAS, Strzeszyńska 32 (room B1) or by e-mail: phdstudies@igcz.poznan.pl:

    1. An Application for admission to the Poznań Doctoral School IPAS together with a consent to the processing of personal data for the purposes of the recruitment procedure and a statement on becoming acquainted with the recruitment regulations to Poznań Doctoral School (download).
    2. A copy of the diploma confirming the completion of master studies programme or a certificate of their completion (in case of diplomas issued by foreign institutions , the diploma referred to in article 326 para.2 point 2 or article 327 para. 2 of the Act of 20 July 2018 – Law on Higher Education and Science (Journal of Laws of 2018, item 1668 as ammended), giving the right to apply for a doctoral degree in the country in which the University of higher education that has issued the diploma operates. If the candidate does not have the abovementioned documents, s/he is obliged to provide them before being admitted to Poznań Doctoral School IPAS.     3. CV containing the course of previous education and employment.
    4. Cover letter containing a brief description of interests, scientific achievements, list of publications, information on involvement in scientific activities (membership in scientific associations, participation in conferences, completed trainings and internships, received prizes and awards) together with justification why the candidate wants to undertake doctoral education.
    5. Certificates or other documents showing the level of English language proficiency, if the candidate has any.
    6. Contact details of at least one current supervisor or another researchers who has previously agreed to issue an opinion about the candidate.
